Scouting at its best...

It was a pleasure and a privilege to have known and worked with Frank Alford during my time as a leader with 1st Bowerhill Scouts. His knowledge and love of Scouting was an inspiration to all who met him and had the joy of hearing him talk about or demonstrate his Scouting skills. Hopping onto his trusty steed (a scooter??) he travelled many miles to attend camps and activities, braving all weathers as letting anyone down was unthinkable, especially the young people. It's fair to say Frank dedicated much of his life to all things Scouting, traveling to Jamborees and Camps in the USA as well as the UK, with many tales to tell and photographs and mementos to share, there was never a shortage of material from his many Scouting exploits. Epitomising the essence of Scouting for Boys as BP laid down in one of his more well known sayings "We must change boys from a 'what can I get' to a 'what can I give' attitude.", Frank gave his everything to Scouting, leading by example and sharing his knowledge with humour and a sense of wonder he never lost. It is without doubt that having given so much to so many, especially in Wiltshire over the years, Franks memory will live on in the exploits of those whose experience he has enhanced during his lifetime in Scouting.
